Five destinations in Vietnam for Honeymoon holiday
Halong-bayHalong Bay - a World Heritage
A cruise on Ha Long Bay -- or the Bay of the Descending Dragon -- for many represents the pinnacle of their experience in Vietnam. Easily one of the most popular destinations in the country, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ha Long Bay is both mystical and magnificent, an incredible feat of nature that almost never fails to impress.

Yes, it really is that good.
Last time we counted, UNESCO had picked out 830 World Heritage sites around the world, chosen for their cultural and historical importance, and also for their geological uniqueness. Ha Long Bay offers a little of all three.
Legends of Champa Kingdom

8-9-vuong-mien-2The Champa kingdom once thrived in the area that is now central Vietnam. Their resources and skill allowed them to greatest goldsmiths of the era. However, centuries later, most treasures of the Cham are lost to history.

Rising to power in roughly the 7th century, the kingdom Champa dominated what is now Southern and Central Vietnam. Its peak ran through the 10th century, when then Cham people were a maritime power, controlling much if the spice trade along the region between Chine, India and ancient city of Hoi An as their major sea port.

Delicious memories
Com_lang_Vong2For Hanoians, nothing evokes autumn like the taste of young rice from Vong village. Que Chi reminisces.

On my sixteenth birthday my mother presented me with a packet of com (young rice) from Vong village, the grains so sweetly scented that they lift a lasting impression. Upon untying the two strands of grass that bound the outer lotus leaves, I smelled the fresh scent of lotus. Inside was a second layer of leaves, these from a sweet potato plant. Pulling back these leaves revealed a pole of delicate green grams, my mother watching as I look my first bite.

Dream voyage

Indochina-Sails2Discover the wild beauty of Ha Long Bay aboard a luxurious yacht

The sky was bright blue and the sea as peaceful as our yacht, named the Indochina, cruised through a forest of rocks in Ha Long Bay. It was your first trip to this World Heritage Site and your questions, were delightfully naive, "Are there any dolphins here?" you asked.

I told you that yes, if we were lucky we might see dolphins trailing the ship like acrobats. You marveled at the islands and at the caves we visited "This one should be named astonishing Cave," you said. While there is no cave with that name, there is a cave in Ha Long Bay named Surprise Cave. Located on Bo Hon Island, it features beautiful stalactites.

Down by the sea

When a visiting friend asked me to recommend a good place in Vietnam to meet up for a short Holiday I didn't hesitate. "HoiAn has it all," I said."Cultural sites, beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet, and a nice beach.

Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on account of its old architecture. Hoi An lies just a short drive from another World Heritage site, the ancient Cham ruins of My Son. But what really impressed my friend was the nearby beach, where we checked into the Golden Sand Hotel.
