Quiet charm

AcientMany visitor count the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hoi An as their favorite place in Vietnam. Diep Tran explains what makes this sleepy riverside town so special.

The English writer Maris Coffey described Hoi An as follows: “Hoi An looks like a sleepy suburb with ancient house surrounded by luxuriant mulberry gardens.”

Other writers have expressed the following sentiments about this town:

“Alas! A township called Nhớ or Hoài (meaning ‘Missing’ in English) was set up very close to a harbor called Đời (meaning ‘Waiting’). What evocative names!.”

Bai Dai tourist area remains deserted
The tourist area in the north of Cam Ranh peninsula, or Bai Dai, with its wonderful charm, is considered the ideal place to develop tourism. That explains why tens of investors come here to seek business opportunities. However, licensed investors have still been slow in implementing projects.

Why hasn’t the wonderful tourist area woken up?

In 2004, the Khanh Hoa provincial authorities approved the plan to develop Bai Dai tourist area which covers an area of 2300 hectares. More than 50 investors immediately registered to make investment in the area.
German cruise ship Bremen visits
Saigontourist Travel Service Co welcomed 750 passengers on board the Bremen when the cruise ship operated by Germany's Hapag-Lloyd Cruises paid its maiden visit to HCM City on Tuesday.

During their two-day stay, the tourists went around HCM City and visited the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta city of My Tho.

They will visit other destinations in the country like Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ha Long and Ha Noi before leaving for Hong Kong next Monday.
Northern village preserves rich architectural heritage
Located by the Nhue River, 15km west of Ha Noi, the ancient village of Cu Da is famous for its soya sauce and glass noodles.

The suburban village has been attracting an increasing number of tourists in recent years, not only for its local specialities, but its traditional houses which reflect both the architectural and cultural values of the northern rural region.
Nha Trang all set for sea extravaganza
HCM CITY — The fifth biennial Nha Trang Sea Festival, themed Nha Trang – Coastal Destination this year, will be held next month.

It will feature some 60 cultural, arts, sporting and tourism events, Khanh Hoa Province People's Committee deputy chairman and head of the organising board, Le Xuan Than told the media in HCM City on Monday.

"The festival aims to attract domestic and foreign tourists to the province and the country," Than said.
