Explore Myanmar (Burma) and Vietnam on an in-depth journey that takes you from Yangon to Hanoi or vice versa. This Heritage Journey combines the two countries in Southeast Asia, aiming to provide you an experience of the history, culture, people and traditions that have evolved over the years in these two magnificent countries. Day 1 - Yangon Arrival.

Mingalabar! Welcome to golden land of Myanmar. Upon arrival to Yangon International Airport, your tour guide & driver will welcome you and transfer you to hotel in the central of the city. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is still a relatively quiet and charming city. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes Yangon one of the most fascinating and authentic capitals of South-East Asia. Your highlight for this evening is the cultural show at Karaweik Palace, overlooking to the Royal Lake and Shwedagon Tower. Enjoy the welcome dinner of Burmese cuisine and the traditional cultural show which features the traditional instruments, attire, and dances of Burma conveying the ten national arts.

Today fly to Bagan very early in the morning to Myanmar’s archeological wonderland, where over 2,200 ancient temples blossom from the countryside. Start your tour with a trip to Shwezigone Pagoda, which is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha, followed by Ananda, Nanpaya Temple. In the afternoon, visit some nearby temples and discover the traditional way the local people make Bagan’s famous lacquer wares. The sunset over Bagan from one of the highest places is also a particularly glorious sight not to be missed before coming back to your hotel.

Today start exploring ancient Bagan with a visit to Nyaung U market, which enables travelers to fully immerse themselves in local life. You'll be able to take plenty of pictures of the market and interact with the locals as you wander around. Next, drive about 1.5 hour to visit Sat Sat Yo, a village still untouched by tourism, where you can instantly spot local people thanks to the Sanytwine, their traditional haircut. The village is charming and the resident monks very welcoming. You may have chance to witness the villagers working in their fields of peanuts, cotton, sesame along the way to Minnanthu village and it is great to experience a truly rural community. Drive back to the town. In the afternoon, enjoy an exotic horse cart ride around the old Bagan. This is the perfect opportunity to take some pictures as you're told the tales of dynasties past. Conclude the day with a sunset boat trip on the Irrawaddy or, officially, Ayeyarwady River.

Optional (at extra surcharge): In the early morning you may like to ride the sunrise hot air balloon flight. Having great experience, seeing Bagan waking up in the morning: many temples in the distance and get a spectacular aerial view of Bagan. Sometimes you may fly over villages and see people on their early morning rounds, feeding their animals or going to market. It is an amazing and interactive experience. Today drive out of Bagan to visit Mount Popa, home to Myanmar's intriguing 'nats' (spirits). The 777 steps and path climb steeply up Mount Popa - an energetic climb rewarded by fabulous views from the top. Lunch at beautiful Popa Mountain Resort. In the afternoon, drive to Salay. Visit Yokesone Monastery, which is the oldest surviving wooden monastery hall, built on 154 teak posts with beautiful wood carvings decorating the outer walls. Drive back to Bagan and spend rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5 - Bagan – Fly to Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay Hill.

In the morning, transfer to the Nyaung U Airport to take flight to Mandalay, the old and historic capital of Myanmar last Kingdom and their monarchs. On arrival, embark on a private boat upstream to Mingun to visit the incomplete Pahtodawgyi Pagoda and to witness the Mingun Bell, said to be the largest un-cracked bell in the world. In the afternoon, head to Mandalay Palace – the last Royal Palace of the last Burmese monarchy and Shwenandaw Monastery – the single remaining major original structure of the original Royal Palace today. Proceed to Kuthodaw Pagoda, a Buddhist stupa that contains the world’s largest book. If time permits, visit to the gold leaf beating workshop. Finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to watch the sunset and the panoramic view of the city.

Day 6 - Mandalay – Sagaing – Inwa – U Bein.

Breakfast at the hotel. Start a visit to Amarapura. Being famous for Mahagandaryone Monastery, Amarapura is the best place to experience the monk life in Mandalay. Every day at mid-morning, monks and novices line up silently to receive their daily offering of alms and food from faithful Buddhists. Head to Sagaing to discover the monk education and to visit Budda Cave, Uminthonze Pagoda and Sunooponnyashin Pagoda. Behold the panoramic view of Mandalay. You then cross the river by ferry to Inwa (Ava), situated on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Once a Royal Capital, Inwa is now a quiet rural oasis. Enjoy a horse cart ride around the peaceful countryside, visiting Bagaya Kyaung, a beautiful teak wood monastery, Maha Aungmyay Bonzan Kyaung, and Nan Myint tower. End of the day, walk over Ubein Wooden Bridge, the longest teak-wood of its type to Mahamuni Image – a bronze Buddha image castled during the lifetime of Buddha himself. Enjoy great sunset view here before driving back to your hotel.

Leave Mandalay for Heho by plane. Upon arrival, drive about an hour to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway to Inle Lake - the second largest lake in Myanmar, located 900m above sea level and is home to unique one leg rower Intha people. You will visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, home to five gold leaf-covered Buddha figures, and the holiest religious site in southern Shan State. Continue by boat to visit Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries on the lake, where you can see exquisite Buddha statues which are more than 200 years old. Return to your hotel as the sun lowers and the light softens over the lake and overshadowed by the majestic Shan Mountains - don’t forget your camera!

This morning, visit the rural but bustling so called five-day market (the location of this special market changes every five days, your guide will inform you of the exact location). Observe the vibrant atmosphere with local people in colorful costumes trading farm products such as vegetables, fruits, dried tea leaves as well as livestock. During today's excursion by boat on Inle Lake you will see the famous leg rowers and the typical floating gardens where fruit and vegetables are grown, and learn about local methods of fishing and village life. A highlight may be a visit to the traditional village of Paukpar, with neat rows of bamboo houses. Stop at the boat construction workshop at Nampan village to see some traditional handicrafts - silk weaving on wooden hand-looms in Inpawkhon village, a cheroot-maker's workshop and a blacksmith's forge. Then continue a boat trip to visit the beautiful temples of Indein, located on the hill overlooking the lake. It will be definitely relaxing to walk along the corridor and enjoy the giant columns which have been left to the nature for centuries. Later in the afternoon, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

After breakfast, start your day with a stroll through downtown Yangon along its streets lined with impressive colonial buildings – City Hall, High Court, General Post Office, Customs House and colonial landmark Strand Hotel while passing religious pagodas and well maintained parks. Visit the Bogyoke Market also known as Scott Market, the most popular shopping place and tourist destination in Yangon where all kinds of souvenir, gems, jewellery arts and crafts, silk and cotton fabrics and garments can be shopped. End your city tour with a visit to the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda, before transferring to Yangon International Airport for your regional flight to Hanoi, Vietnam's elegant capital city. After clearing immigration custom, your Vietnamese tour guide and driver will take you to the hotel in the heart of Hanoi for checking in.

Have breakfast in the hotel and enjoy a full day city tour of Hanoi. The visit includes most of the City’s outstanding historical and cultural sites. - Temple of Literature, built in 11th Century and the country’s first University - The complex of Ho Chi Minh historical sites including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House and One Pillar Pagoda (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum closes on Monday & Friday and all afternoons). - Quan Thanh Temples & Tran Quoc Pagoda on the bank of West Lake. - Visit one of the museums in Hanoi (Museum of History, Museum of Ethnology, Museum of Fine Art or Hoa Lo Prison which is also known as the "Hanoi Hilton"). Later in the afternoon, discover Hanoi Old Quarter on cyclo ride or open electric car.

Day 11 - Hanoi – Ninh Binh – Hoa Lu.

After breakfast at the hotel, drive over 2 hours Southeast on the freeway to the picturesque Ninh Binh area. Discover Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam during the Dinh and Le dynasties, before taking a sampan trip down the Tam Coc River. Should you feel adventurous climb up to Bich Dong Pagoda on nearby Ngu Nhac Mountain, dating to 1428 and comprising three structures: Ha, Trung, and Thuong Pagodas, in ascending order. Experience a night at picturesque & tranquil resort in this area. There are options to float down Trang An or Thung Nang Rivers famous for their charming grottoes and limestone karts mountains.

After breakfast you will have about 3.5 hour drive along the country side of the Red River Delta to the UNESCO World’s Heritage site of Halong Bay. Spend nearly 24 hours on a traditional junk cruise in the amazing bay: a natural wonderland composed of jutting limestone islands and sparkling turquoise waters. Arrive at the dock around noon and board your junk. Enjoy a huge lunch served on board and admire the picturesque scenery of islands. These limestone karst formations are littered with beaches, grottoes and beautiful caves. You will anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove and an enjoyable visit to Sung Sot cave, one of the many hidden grottoes beneath towering cliffs. The remainder of day is for your own pleasure; observing the bay, lazing around the deck or simply soaking up the sunshine.

Day 13 - Halong Bay – Hanoi – Farewell Dinner.

The sailing junks navigating past over 2,000 limestone islands and outcrops jutting out of the clear and emerald water of the bay make for a marvelous scene. Take an option to get up early to observe the splendid landscape and see the fishermen on a morning catch. The huge breakfast is a perfect way to start your relaxing day. Weave your way past Man Head and Tortoise rocks. These imposing islets are named by their distinctive shapes. Cruise through Bai Tu Long Bay and arrange your luggage to disembark at noon. Your driver will meet you at the dock and take you back to Hanoi. There are couple hours for refreshment at hotel before the farewell dinner in one of the finest restaurants hosted by Vietnam Travel.
