The military coup on February 1, 2021, ended the democratic transition under Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD). The security situation in Myanmar has since been unpredictable and liable to change without notice.

There is significant conflict and violence across many of Myanmar’s states and regions, involving air strikes, artillery bombardments, landmines, and armed clashes. In urban areas such as Yangon and Mandalay, countless shootings and targeted explosions have occurred. The military’s indiscriminate use of artillery and air strikes has reportedly injured and killed civilians, damaged villages, including schools, and forced thousands to flee.

International sanctions, a halt in foreign aid, and the withdrawal of foreign investors have all pushed Myanmar to the brink of economic collapse. Ongoing political turmoil has also complicated the pandemic’s socioeconomic and public health challenges.

Businesses all over Myanmar are facing bankruptcy. The banking sector has seen widespread disruption, with many banks closed and ATMs empty. Myanmar’s currency has lost more than 60per cent of its value.

Travel Advisories from around the world

Tourist visas have been available again since May 2022. Popular destinations such as Mandalay, Bagan, and Inle Lake are open to travelers, while other areas are closed due to civil unrest and armed conflict. However, the reality is the situation remains unpredictable throughout the country.

As a result, we’ve decided it is still too early to resume operations in Myanmar. There are no ifs, buts, and maybes regarding our guest’s safety and comfort. We invite anyone interested in traveling to Myanmar first to consult their government’s travel advisory, which can significantly impact travel insurance.

“Myanmar We think of You”: Join us in making a difference

No words can express how saddened we are by this situation and all the hardships Myanmar, especially our people there, continue to experience daily. We’ve made a point of maintaining a link with them and have done so successfully, in part, thanks to our financial aid program for tourism professionals.

Through this charity operation, we’ve been able to deliver support to the same people who made every trip to Myanmar with us an incredible and unforgettable experience.

Who are we helping?
We are helping our former staff – our sales and production teams, accounting, HR, and more – and our contracted tour guides that lost their jobs due to Myanmar’s unfortunate events.
We are also considering extending this program to more guides along with the local family-run homestays we previously worked with.

How are we helping?
Thanks to our “Myanmar, We think of You” initiative, we’ve been able to collect donations and provide financial support to our former colleagues.

All donations we collect through this campaign are routed to the NGO’ Colours of Life’, which takes care of and distributes 100% of the proceeds to our former Easia colleagues in Myanmar.

Depending on the individual finances, we provide emergency aid according to their needs:

    • Food for the respective families
    • Medical emergency aid
    • Further education and training to generate income

How can you help?

    1. Help create revenue for the “colors of Life” NGO following any of our two revenue creation models.
      1.  Itinerary contribution – For each traveler of yours that travels with us to any of our destinations, Easia donates 2$ to the NNGO’ colors Of Life” We invite our partners to match our donation, effectively doubling our impact.
      2. Voluntary donations – Our partner and their travelers are welcome to contribute more by making a tax-deductible donation directly to the NGO.
    2. Help create awareness with your clients regarding the situation of the people of Myanmar.
    3. Become an ambassador for the tourism professionals in Myanmar and promote the campaign on your website and social media channels.

Want to make a difference? Contribute to our campaign!

We miss our Burmese team more than ever and are proud of our friends, colleagues, and partners who have kept peacefully fighting for their rights and freedom.
